A New Center for Intensive Care at Wuesthoff Medical Center - Rockledge
The new $8 million Center for Intensive Care opened in the fall of 2006
providing 24 rooms for critical care services. Each room is furnished with an
advanced technology bed that has the ability to monitor respiratory status and
heart rate, as well as provide percussion and rotation capabilities to enhance
the status of patients with ventilators, reduce pneumonia, and shorten the time
in ICU. The new space is significantly larger than the former intensive care
unit, allowing better service for our patients.
The Center for Intensive Care is a closed unit, which is safer for staff and
patients.
A New Center for Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology -
Rockledge
The new $4.5 million Center for Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional
Cardiology opened in the spring of 2007. The Center includes three connected
laboratory rooms in one congruent cardiac catheterization suite.
Each of the three catheterization laboratories is outfitted with a
state-of-the-art Toshiba cardiac x-ray machine at a cost of $800,000 each. The
new x-ray machines produce sharper images, better 3-D views of the heart and
reduced radiation for the patient.
The Center for Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology combines
leading edge technology with better patient flow and improved staff
utilization. In the future, Wuesthoff plans to extend catheterization
procedures beyond the heart to other parts of the body.
Cardiac disease is the number one cause of death in the United States for both
men and women. Annually, about 1.1 million people die from some form of heart
disease.
Wuesthoff's Cardiac Care program has been nationally recognized for its
outstanding performance. Wuesthoff is the only hospital in Brevard County to be
recognized in the American Heart Association's "Get With The Guidelines"
program, earning gold status for sustained performance.
