The Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care

Update

Wuesthoff is currently constructing the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care. More than $3.5 million has already been contributed toward an estimated total cost of $5 million.

The Wuesthoff Health System Foundation is committed to raising the additional $1 million to complete funding of the Hospice House 100% through private support.

Sanctuary

There is a need for sanctuary at the end of life's journey. We hope that patients with life-limiting illnesses may spend their final days at home in the care and company of loved ones. To help make this possible, Brevard Hospice and Palliative Care has given caring, professional service for the past 20 years to more than 12,500 of Brevard's families. Unfortunately, there are many dying patients who are too ill to remain at home and must spend their final days in the hectic, clinical surroundings of a nursing home or hospital.

The Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care

The Center will be a warm and caring place that conforms to the needs of its patients. In the Hospice House, controlling patients' pain is paramount, allowing families to make each precious moment count.

As a temporary home for up to twelve patients at a time, the Center will support the medical, spiritual and emotional needs of each patient. This expansive, home-like facility will include individual private suites with screened porches, serene gardens, a chapel, a gathering area and overnight accommodations for patients' families. For additional family support, trained Grief Support Specialists will provide comfort to patients and family members. Recognizing that many patients have young families or grandchildren that need consideration at this special time, there will be a children's play area. For added comfort, the full services of Wuesthoff Medical Center are only moments away.

Every day, more than 200 patients receive care from our Hospice staff. Including families and other loved ones, Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice touches the lives of countless more. The Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care will add the capstone to this phenomenal community care program.

A Labor of Love

The hospice house campaign has been a labor of love, not only for the dedicated volunteers who have been involved in reaching out to the community for support, but also for the donors who have stepped forward to help. The Center will be named for the late brother of Dr. Ravindran Palaniyani, president, Space Coast Cardiology. Dr. and Mrs. Palaniyandi made a one million dollar commitment to make this project possible. "We made this gift because we know that there are others who can make a similar contribution. If our name can be associated with it, perhaps it will encourage others to do the same," said Ambika Palaniyandi.

These sentiments are shared by the many people who have supported this worthy project at extraordinary levels. Donors have given more than $4 million putting the Center for Hospice Care within $1 million of its estimated cost.

Wuesthoff Foundation is reaching out to inspire some very special people in the community who will make this project a reality as soon as possible. The need for free-standing hospice care is ever-present. The people who cannot be served at home need an alternative location for their care. The traditional clinical settings do not provide the serene, private environment that would be offered in the Center for Hospice Care. These patients and their families need your help today.
