Biography

Dorothy Allen

Ms. Allen has served as President of Wuesthoff Health System Foundation in Rockledge, Florida since January 2004, where she is responsible for philanthropy for two hospitals, a large hospice program, and other entities within the Wuesthoff Health System. She has transformed the philanthropy program into a comprehensive initiative that generates over $2 million annually. She has developed a performance-based Strategic Innovations program that measures success by performance metrics. The Foundation has raised over $3.2 million toward a $4 million capital campaign for a hospice house to be built on Wuesthoff's Melbourne campus. Through expansion of major and planned giving programs, community outreach and networking, and prospective donor cultivation, Ms. Allen has established a dynamic community presence for the Foundation and gained a strong following of supporters.

Ms. Allen has been the chief architect of three philanthropy development programs. She served as Vice President for Development and Public Relations for The Forsyth Institute in Boston, the world's leading independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institution devoted to oral and craniofacial science. Prior to Forsyth, she was Vice President for Philanthropy at Southcoast Health System in Southeastern Massachusetts, where, in a merger of three health systems, she was responsible for consolidating three established philanthropy programs into one integrated health system model. She began her career in philanthropy at Charlton Health System in Fall River, MA, where she created the Charlton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the first philanthropy program for this organization, in addition to responsibility for marketing, strategic planning and public relations.

Ms. Allen is a well-known public speaker and conference presenter. She also teaches each summer at the prestigious Association for Healthcare Philanthropy's (AHP) Institute for Healthcare Philanthropy at U-Wisconsin (Madison) where she serves as Associate Dean, Fundamentals of Resource Development. She served as faculty for the inaugural presentation of the AHP Advanced Course in Resource Development in 2004 and led the faculty for this program subsequent regional conferences. Additionally, she is a member of the AHP International Board of Certification as the chair of the sub-committee for the Fellows Mentoring Program.

She has held leadership positions in many civic and professional organizations, including the boards of the Rotary Club of Fall River (MA), Bristol County Estate Planning Council, New England Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, and the Southeastern Massachusetts Planned Giving Group. Here in Brevard County, she is a member of the Brevard County Estate Planning Council, serves on the membership committee of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, and is a member of the BSO South Guild, the Women's Center Guild, and the Space Coast League of Women Voters.

As an Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Fellow (FAHP), Ms. Allen holds the highest level of accreditation in her profession. She also is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE.) She holds a BA from Vermont College of Norwich University and a certificate in Management Studies from Northeastern University's Graduate School of Business. Ms. Allen and her husband, Jim Mallon, live in Suntree - Melbourne, Florida. They are avid enthusiasts for music and the arts and hold season tickets with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra.
